Lending Paws a Hand provides a helping hand to the pets of Lee County

Lending Paws a Hand is another long-time Spring Fling attendee and we are happy to have them coming back this year. They have had so many pets find homes because of Spring Fling and love meeting fellow pet lovers at the event!

This group has been helping the animals of Lee county since 2014. Like so many rescue groups, they are foster based, which means that they don't have a physical shelter location. All their adoptable dogs and cats live with foster families which gives them a great picture of how the pet will behave in their forever home! It also means that they are limited in the number of animals they can help; without people opening their homes to foster, they can't take in more animals.

Mary, the founder, got started transporting animals for different rescues after becoming aware of the plight of pets in small, rural county shelters. Her dog Luke, came from Lee County shelter and originally was going to be pulled by a rescue group. Unfortunately, things didn't end up working out with that group and Mary adopted him to keep him from being euthanized. One thing led to another and a couple years later, Lending Paws a Hand was founded!

Meet one of their adoptable dogs, Gunner! His people report that he is a 3-4 year old guy with an easy-going personality and he loves kids. He is an active dog with a lot of energy so he'd make a great walking or hiking buddy. He also loves to run around the yard and play fetch! Gunner has met other dogs and his people think he would do well with a dog who's the same size and play style as him. Once he's gotten his energy burned up for the day, he is a champion couch sleeper, and he might snore just a little!
